How to choose an arch bathroom mirror

Four checks before you order.

Size to your vanity

We generally recommend the largest size that’s no wider than your vanity. When in doubt, size up, if the space allows it; if a side wall, tiles or the door make it tight, go one size down. The Positano mirrors are 600 mm wide and the Positano Cabinet 500 mm; the Santander is 1200 or 1500 mm. Check the wall height too: a 900 mm-tall arch needs about 1 m of clear wall above the tap.

100–200 mm above the tap

Leave 100–200 mm between the top of the tap (or splashback) and the lowest point of the glass, and no less than 100 mm. On an arch, measure to the flat bottom edge. Fix the height before your licensed electrician runs the cable, because the supply sits behind the mirror.

Backlit or front-lit

Backlit (Positano, Positano Ambient, Santander, Barcelona): a soft glow on the wall behind the glass, with a downlight for detail work. Front-lit (Framed Positano, Positano Cabinet): light through the glass onto your face, better for make-up and shaving. The Santander Cabinet does both.

Recessed or surface-mounted

Every arch mirror mounts on the wall surface. The Positano Cabinet and Santander Cabinet can be recessed into the wall or surface-mounted; the Positano Cabinet’s recess opening is 500 × 650 × 98 mm. Check the opening against your cabinet and frame it before the wall is sheeted.

Arch mirror questions

What size arch bathroom mirror suits my vanity?

We generally recommend the largest size that’s no wider than your vanity. When in doubt, size up, if the space allows it; if a side wall, tiles or the door make it tight, go one size down. Our Positano, Positano Ambient and Framed Positano are 600 × 900 mm, which suits a single vanity of 600 mm or more. For a long vanity or a double basin, the Santander comes in 1200 × 800 and 1500 × 1000 mm, so a 1200 mm vanity takes the 1200 mm Santander. An arch is taller than it is wide, so check the wall height too: a 900 mm arch needs about 1 m of clear wall above the tap. Mirror size guide.

Do you have a large arch mirror?

Yes. Our large arch mirror is the Santander, a wide, low arch in 1200 × 800 mm or 1500 × 1000 mm, made for a long vanity or a double basin. It’s our only large arch for a vanity; the other arch mirrors are 600 mm wide. If you want height rather than width, the Barcelona is a 600 × 1700 mm full-length arch for a bedroom or dressing area.

Arch mirror with lights: backlit or front-lit?

A backlit arch (Positano, Positano Ambient, Santander, Barcelona) throws a soft glow onto the wall behind the glass, so the arch seems to float; add a downlight over the vanity for close work. A front-lit arch (Framed Positano, Positano Cabinet) lights your face through the glass, which is better for make-up and shaving. The Santander Cabinet does both. Frontlit vs backlit LED mirrors.

Is there an arch frameless mirror, or a framed one?

Mostly frameless. The Positano, Positano Ambient, Santander, Barcelona and both arch cabinets have no frame, so for an arch frameless mirror you can choose from six models. If you’d like a frame, the Framed Positano (600 × 900 mm) adds a slim metal one in Gold, Silver, Black or Gunmetal.

Is there an arch mirror cabinet?

Yes, two. The Positano Cabinet is 500 × 900 mm and 118 mm deep with one left-hinged door; its recess opening is 500 × 650 × 98 mm. The Santander Cabinet is 1200 × 800 mm and 117 mm deep with three doors hinged on the inside dividers. Both have glass shelves and a power point inside, and both can be recessed or surface-mounted. Arch bathroom mirrors

An arch bathroom mirror is a rectangle with a rounded top. It softens a run of straight lines without the commitment of a full circle, and because it’s taller than it is wide, it makes a low ceiling or a narrow vanity look taller. Every arch here is an arch LED mirror with a built-in demister, touch controls and dimmable light in warm, neutral and cool white.

The sizes, in short: the Positano, Positano Ambient and Framed Positano are 600 × 900 mm; the Santander is 1200 × 800 or 1500 × 1000 mm; the Positano Cabinet is 500 × 900 mm and the Santander Cabinet 1200 × 800 mm; and the Barcelona is a 600 × 1700 mm full-length arch. The large arches are the Santander 1200 and 1500 mm.

Large arch mirrors: the Santander 1200 and 1500 mm

The Santander is a wide arch mirror, low and broad: 1200 × 800 mm or 1500 × 1000 mm. It’s the arch for a long vanity or a double basin, where two tall arches would crowd the wall. It’s backlit, has Bluetooth audio and remembers your last light setting.

Tall arches: 600 × 900 mm

The Positano is the classic tall arch mirror, 600 mm wide and 900 mm high, backlit with Bluetooth audio. The Positano Ambient is the same shape with a simpler touch control. These suit a single vanity from 600 mm up.

Arch frameless mirrors and a framed option

Every arch here is frameless except the Framed Positano, which adds a slim metal frame in Gold, Silver, Black or Gunmetal and lights your face from the front. In Black it’s our black arch mirror, a good match for matte black tapware.

Backlit or front-lit?

A backlit arch (Positano, Positano Ambient, Santander, Barcelona) throws a soft glow onto the wall behind the glass, so the arch seems to float; add a downlight over the vanity for close work. A front-lit arch (Framed Positano, Positano Cabinet) lights your face through the glass, which is better for make-up and shaving. The Santander Cabinet does both. Frontlit vs backlit LED mirrors compares the two.

Arch mirror cabinets

The Positano Cabinet (500 × 900 mm) and Santander Cabinet (1200 × 800 mm) put shelves behind the glass. Both can be recessed into the wall or mounted on it; the Positano Cabinet’s recess opening is 500 × 650 × 98 mm. Check it against your cabinet before anyone cuts. See all mirror cabinets.

A full-length arch

The Barcelona is a 600 × 1700 mm backlit arch for a bedroom, walk-in robe or dressing area. More in full-length mirrors.

Sizing and hanging an arch bathroom mirror

We generally recommend the largest size that’s no wider than your vanity. When in doubt, size up, if the space allows it; if a side wall, tiles or the door make it tight, go one size down. Then check the height: hang the bottom edge 100–200 mm above the tap, and make sure the top of the arch clears the ceiling or tile line. The mirror is hardwired by a licensed electrician, so settle the cable position before the wall is sheeted. Our mirror height guide has the drawing.

Arch or rectangle? An arch softens the room and adds height; a rectangle gives the most glass for the wall space. Compare round mirrors, oval mirrors and rectangle mirrors, or read round vs arch vs rectangle mirrors.
