There’s no single best tapware colour. Chrome and brushed nickel are the safest all-rounders. Brushed brass and antique brass warm a room up, and matte black and brushed gunmetal give it contrast. Choose the one that suits your tiles, stone and lighting, then use it on every tap and fitting in the room.
Every tap and fitting we sell comes in the same six finishes. Below, each finish is set against its closest neighbour, then matched to bathroom styles. Where something is our opinion rather than a fact, we say so.

What’s the Best Tapware Colour for Your Bathroom?
The one that suits the rest of the room. A finish looks different next to white stone than next to dark tile, and different again under warm or cool light. This is how we’d match them, as a starting point rather than a rule:

| Finish | Feel | Suits | Works with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome | Cool, bright, reflective | Coastal, Scandinavian, most styles | Almost any palette |
| Brushed Nickel | Neutral warm grey | Hamptons, Scandinavian, Japandi | Most stone and tile colours |
| Brushed Brass | Warm, soft gold | Hamptons, organic modern, luxury | White stone, travertine, warm timber |
| Antique Brass | Warmest, deeper and darker | Traditional, organic modern, luxury | Warm timber, natural stone |
| Brushed Gunmetal | Dark, cool grey | Modern, industrial | Dark stone, matte tile |
| Matte Black | Darkest, flat | Minimalist, modern, industrial | Light stone, white walls |
Look at the finish under the light you’ll actually have. Our LED mirrors run from 2700 K warm white to 6500 K cool white, and the same brass tap reads golden at the warm end and flatter at the cool end.
The Same Tap in All Six Finishes
Here is one product, our Milano wall spout and mixer, photographed in each of our six finishes. Tap any photo to see it in that finish.
These are photos of the real product, but every screen shows colour a little differently. Finish samples are coming soon; until then, send us a photo of your bathroom and we’ll help you compare.
Brushed Nickel vs Chrome
Chrome is the brighter, cooler silver. Brushed nickel is a softer grey with a slightly warm undertone. Both are neutral and sit happily with most tiles and stone. The practical difference is the surface. Chrome is polished, so it bounces light around a small or dark room, but water spots show on it. Brushed nickel has a fine brushed texture that hides fingerprints and water marks better.
Our view: if you clean often and like a crisp look, chrome. If you’d rather wipe less, brushed nickel.

| Chrome | Brushed Nickel | |
|---|---|---|
| Colour | Cool, bright silver | Warm grey |
| Surface | Polished, reflective | Brushed, low shine |
| Shows | Water spots | Little: texture hides marks |
| Suits | Coastal, Scandinavian, most styles | Hamptons, Scandinavian, Japandi |
Antique Brass vs Brushed Brass
Antique Brass is the darker, deeper of the two. Brushed Brass is lighter and more golden. Both are brushed, so both hide marks well. Antique Brass suits traditional rooms and raw timber; Brushed Brass suits white stone and travertine. We’ve put them side by side, with photos, in Antique Brass vs Brushed Brass.
Brushed Gunmetal vs Matte Black
Matte black is flat and graphic. Brushed gunmetal is a dark grey with a brushed texture, softer than black. Gunmetal changes more with the light: close to charcoal under warm light, more blue-grey under cool light. Fingerprints and water spots show more on matte black than on a brushed finish, though that’s a quick wipe rather than a lasting problem.
Our view: matte black for strong contrast against white walls and pale stone. Gunmetal if black feels too stark, or your benchtop is dark.

Which Tapware Colour Is Timeless?
Chrome and brushed nickel have stayed in favour the longest, so they’re the lowest-risk choice if you’re thinking about resale. That’s our opinion, not a forecast. Brass and black have been around long enough now to read as established choices rather than fads. No finish is trend-proof, so pick the one you’ll still like in ten years.
Does Brass Tapware Tarnish?
Our Antique Brass doesn’t tarnish. Every finish, brushed brass included, is also covered for 3 years under our finish warranty. What dulls any finish faster is the wrong cleaner, so stick to the care routine below.
Care and Warranty for Every Finish
Warm soapy water and a soft cloth, then dry it. No acid, chlorine or abrasive cleaners on any finish. Using them is also outside the conditions of our warranty. Our tapware care guide goes through each finish.

| Part | Covered for |
|---|---|
| Body | 15 years |
| Cartridges, valves and moving parts | 7 years |
| Surface finish | 3 years |
| Washers, seals and O-rings | 2 years |
Full terms are on our tapware warranty page.
One Finish for the Whole Room
Repeat one finish on every metal piece you can see. That means the taps and shower, and also the waste, towel rail, robe hook, shower screen hinges and door handle. One chrome waste under a brass tap is the first thing people notice. Every model below comes in all six finishes.
| Category | Models, each in all six finishes |
|---|---|
| Basin and wall mixers | Vienna Short, Vienna Tall, Milano wall spout + mixer, Milano Wall Mixer |
| Kitchen mixers | Como, Porto pull-out |
| Showers | Corsica, Bordeaux, Lyon, Versailles, Cannes |
| Wastes and traps | Lisbon, Firenze, Granada |
| Bathroom accessories | Copenhagen robe hook, Lille toilet roll holder, Provence 600 mm towel rail |
| Shower screen hardware | Rennes and Geneva hinges, Rhodes clamp, Corfu handle |
| Door hardware | Santorini handle, Prague lock, Venezia hinge |
Over the basin, our framed Capri (round) and Valencia (pill) LED mirrors come with Antique Brass, Brushed Brass, Brushed Nickel or Matte Black frames. Matching your mirror frame to your tapware shows which frame goes with which finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best color tapware?
The one that suits your bathroom. Chrome and brushed nickel are the safest all-rounders; brushed brass and antique brass warm a room up; matte black and brushed gunmetal give contrast. Match it to your tiles, stone and lighting, then repeat it on every fitting.
What color tapware is timeless?
Chrome and brushed nickel have stayed in favour the longest, which makes them the lowest-risk choice for resale. That’s our view rather than a rule: brass and black are well-established choices too.
What looks better, chrome or brushed nickel?
Chrome is brighter and cooler and suits a crisp, clean look. Brushed nickel is a softer warm grey that hides water spots and fingerprints better. Both are neutral and work with most tiles and stone.
Is antique brass darker than brushed brass?
Yes. Antique Brass is the deeper, darker of our two brass finishes; Brushed Brass is lighter and more golden. Both have a brushed texture.
Is brushed nickel out of style in 2026?
We don’t think so. Brushed nickel is one of the most versatile finishes, sitting between the warmth of brass and the coolness of chrome, and it isn’t tied to one design era. That’s opinion, not data.
What taps don’t tarnish?
Our Antique Brass doesn’t tarnish, and every one of our finishes is covered for 3 years under the finish warranty. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, and avoid acid, chlorine and abrasive cleaners.
Is matte black tapware good?
It’s a strong choice for contrast in modern and minimalist bathrooms. It shows fingerprints and water spots more than a brushed finish, so it needs a quick wipe more often.
Do all your taps come in the same finishes?
Yes. All 24 of our tapware, shower, waste, accessory and hardware models come in Antique Brass, Brushed Brass, Brushed Nickel, Brushed Gunmetal, Matte Black and Chrome. Colour can vary slightly between brass taps and stainless steel hardware.
Can I order finish samples?
Finish samples are coming soon. Until then, send us a photo of your bathroom and we’ll help you compare.
