How to choose a basin mixer

The basin decides most of it. Here is how the four designs differ.

Vienna Short: set-in basins

175 mm tall with 75 mm under the spout and a 140 mm reach. For basins set into the bench or only slightly raised.

Vienna Tall: above-bench basins

305 mm tall with 200 mm under the spout and a 180 mm reach. For vessel basins with a rim up to about 150 mm.

Milano: wall mixer or set

Keeps the bench clear and suits any basin. The in-wall body needs 45 to 70 mm of depth and goes in before the wall is sheeted. The spout projects 192 mm.

The 50 mm rule

Leave at least 50 mm between the basin rim and the underside of the spout. Which tap fits my basin?

Basin and wall mixer questions

What is a wall spout?

A wall spout delivers water from the wall instead of the bench, with a separate wall mixer to control it. Ours projects 192 mm and comes as a set with the Milano mixer, for a basin.

Is a basin mixer a tap?

Yes: it's one tap that blends hot and cold through a single lever, rather than separate hot and cold taps.

What size hole does a mixer tap need?

The Vienna Short and Vienna Tall need a Ø35–38 mm tap hole. Wall mixers need no hole in the basin or bench, just 45–70 mm of depth inside the wall.

Do you need a plumber to install a mixer tap?

Yes. A licensed plumber installs it to AS/NZS 3500, and licensed installation is a condition of the warranty; our mixers carry WaterMark licence WM-022467, listed on each product page.

How high should a wall mounted tap be above a basin?

High enough that the underside of the spout clears the basin rim by at least 50 mm, with the 192 mm projection reaching over the bowl. Your plumber fixes the height at rough-in; bathroom heights and rough-in measurements has the typical figures.

Basin mixer taps in two heights, or off the bench altogether

Choosing a basin mixer comes down to one measurement: the gap between the basin rim and the underside of the spout, which should be at least 50 mm. Our four designs cover the usual set-ups, each in six finishes, and all four are Lead Free WaterMark certified, with no more than 0.25% weighted average lead in the parts that touch drinking water.

Tall basin mixer for above-bench basins

The Vienna Tall stands 305 mm with 200 mm of clearance under the spout and 180 mm of reach, so it clears an above-counter basin with a rim up to about 150 mm. It's the one for a vessel basin sitting on top of the vanity.

The Vienna Short is 175 mm tall with 75 mm under the spout and 140 mm of reach, for a basin set into the bench or only slightly raised. Both fit a single Ø35–38 mm tap hole and are rated WELS 5 Star at 6.0 L/min. Which tap fits my basin? picks the height from your basin's measurements.

Wall mount basin taps: the Milano wall mixer

Wall-mounted taps keep the vanity top clear, which helps on a narrow bench or with a basin that has no tap hole. The Milano wall mixer has a Ø65 mm wall plate and a 115 mm lever, and its in-wall body needs 45 to 70 mm of depth. It goes in before the wall is sheeted and tiled, so plan it at rough-in; bathroom heights and rough-in measurements covers where it sits.

Wall spout and mixer set

The Milano spout and mixer set pairs that mixer with a basin spout projecting 192 mm from the wall. It's rated WELS 5 Star at 6.0 L/min and needs the same 45–70 mm of wall depth. Because the spout comes out of the wall, the height of the basin doesn't limit it the way it limits a bench-mounted tap. Wall-mounted or bench-mounted? sets the two side by side.

Inside every mixer

All four have DZR brass bodies, Citec ceramic cartridges and WaterMark licence WM-022467 to AS 3718, and work from 50 to 800 kPa. We supply replacement cartridges. The in-wall body of each wall model is shared across its six finishes, so a later change of finish is a trim swap rather than a retile (what you can swap without retiling). A pop-up waste or bottle trap in the same finish completes the basin.

Every product here has the same cover: 15 years on the body, 7 years on cartridges, valves and moving parts, 3 years on the finish and 2 years on washers, seals and O-rings (tapware warranty). Taps and showers must be installed by a licensed plumber for the warranty to apply.
